5 Tips for the perfect at home blowout

I’ll admit, I’ve spent a good part of teenage and now college years trying to perfect the at-home blowout to no avail. Maybe it’s my lack of patience, but my attempts for smooth, bouncy blowouts always look more like I just went through a wind tunnel. Lucky for me, my cosmetology student sister loves to practice her blowouts on me. While her help has gotten me through the past few years, I am happy to report that I have finally mastered my own at-home blowout. Keep reading for my tips to perfect your own “just stepped out of the salon” blowout look at home.

1. Towel Dry or T-Shirt Dry Your Hair First

My first mistake (that I didn’t even realize I was making) was trying to blow out sopping wet hair. Not only will this take way longer than necessary, starting your blowout with damp hair as opposed to wet hair means you will have to use less heat, therefore creating less frizz and damage over time. Bonus: less time blow drying means less time holding up your fatigued arms. Do your hair and your arms a favor.

2. Use Heat Protectant

No matter your hair type, it is essential to make sure you protect your strands. Heat protectants, like our Great Barrier, work by sealing off the hair’s cuticle, therefore protecting it from any damage.

3. Loose Dry

Before breaking it down into smaller sections, give your hair a quick rough dry until it’s about 70 percent dry. This step ensures that you don’t overdo the heat and can work towards smoothing out individual sections towards the end, rather than going over them over and over again.

4. Choose the Right Hair Dryer

The new Beachwaver Pro Dry Midnight Rose is my secret weapon for getting perfect blowouts every time. Its precision nozzle is the key for getting frizz-free volume. Plus, its ion technology gives off a negative ionic charge that counteracts positive ionic charges (aka damage) in the hair, which seals the cuticle and helps it retain its moisture and smoothness. Give it a once over with the cool setting at the end to set the style.

5. Finish With Styling Products

Tame any flyways with your favorite styling products. My dry, curly hair does best with a smoothing oil and some hairspray, and sometimes I add some Second Chance dry shampoo to pump up the volume. Your favorite finishing products will polish off the look and give it more longevity. Enjoy your fresh blowout!
