The bob was created in the 1920s. Women cut their locks into a bob to have more of a boyish look, which went against the long, full hair associated with femininity before the 1920s. Finger waves were added to the hairstyle to soften the look. Finger waves are the shaping or molding of the hair while wet into S-shaped curves with the fingers and comb.
